After a complex family tragedy, we found ourselves unable to give the care our lively adolescent pup needed – his behaviour and separation anxiety was deteriorating by the day and we found ourselves in the heartbreaking position of having to look for a re-home for the little boy. After contacting a number of rescue services, and telling, and re-telling, our very sad circumstances only to then receive standard rejection emails,  I was lucky enough to find Spaniel Aid. From the very first call we received nothing but compassion, honesty and care.

As with so many rescue organisations at this time, they are under massive pressure as a charity (please donate if you can) and my contact was very honest with me about the likelihood of a re-home, but with this came stacks of kind and practical advice on how to best manage the pup in our situation. The advice was 100 times better than any we’d had, even from an expensive behaviourist,  and that meant so much to us at such a difficult time. And then a miracle happened, just days later, we got a call that a foster home had been found for our little pup! He would be with a family with lots of other spaniels while he was assessed for a forever family. It was the greatest relief and honestly life-changing to get the news that our boy would have a little pack to play & snuggle with and that he would never be alone. The perfect family for him.

The whole re-home process was completely smooth and I felt very ‘held’ throughout by our link person who was amazing, as were all of the other staff at Spaniel Aid who helped organise handover and transport. I honestly can’t think of anything that could be improved in the process. And I mean that. The practical arrangements for handover were so professional and organised in a way to help protect the foster carer’s privacy as you would expect. We’ve received video and photos from Day 1 and they have brightened some very dark days for us, especially seeing him running around on long walks with his new friends, stealing balls, posing for photos with his pack and snuggling up at night for cuddles on the carer’s lap. And to top it all, our little boy has wormed his way into the carer’s hearts and he will now be staying in this perfect doggy family forever.

To anyone out there reading this who is also struggling, I never in a million years thought we’d end up in the position of rehoming a dog, but I can say this – if it happens to you, and you are lucky enough to find Spaniel Aid, you can trust them completely. The whole process has been so supportive and completely without judgement – it’s helped us move forward and be well enough to begin to manage the consequences of complex bereavement. Our little one is now in the perfect home, enveloped in love and spaniels – and we can sleep at night again.

We contacted Spaniel Aid after my dad passed away. They have been brilliant throughout the whole process. They were so understanding and accommodated everything we mentioned about our dogs likes and dislikes. I’m happy in the knowledge that he’s gone to a lovely foster home to be cared for until he is ready for adoption. Cannot recommend Spaniel Aid UK highly enough.

Couldn’t recommend Spaniel Aid enough. They’re empathetic, understanding and really help you through the process. The transport volunteers were also brilliant in our experience. We’ve been kept up to date on fostering progress and our boy has been successfully rehomed. So much thanks and appreciation.”

“Spaniel aid are absolutely amazing. I was in a tough situation where I only had a very small amount of time to find a home for my dog. I contacted spaniel aid and within a day they already had somewhere set up for her to go. They don’t ask for anything in return and have the dogs best intentions always at heart. Couldn’t recommend these guys more they are brilliant.”

“Rehoming our Leo was truly one of the most painful and difficult decisions for our family. We were heartbroken and after years of of “backing out” we never would have taken the steps to do it without this amazing charity. They saved us from the rut we had gotten ourselves into and dealt with every part of the transition. I cannot thank them enough for everything. Just to add, for the first month we received so so so many Pictures of Leo and seeing him live his best life just gave us so much comfort through our grief.
Thank you guys deeply
